Episode 15 – Listen to the Music! (Memory Anchors)
Rod and Brian interview Al Lucia and recap a number of key takeaways from the last six months of Latitude episodes using Al’s technique of harmogenizing – using music as a memory anchor.
Episode Summary:
Research has concluded, as a general rule, a human’s forgetting curve is that in about 1 day, you forget about 70% of the information you have read or heard. However, music can have a significantly longer lasting period. This episode illustrates the use of harmogenizing on some key elements in creating an engaged, high-performance culture.
Whiteboard Notes:
Reflection Questions:
- What memory anchors does your organization use to reinforce key messages?
- Where could you use music as a memory anchor in your communication efforts?
- What key songs might you use?
Do you have any video of that? I’d care to find out more details.
Thanks for your question. We are not aware of any videos. But there are two books by Al Lucia & Donna Long on the subject
1. JukeBox Journey to Success
2. Rock Your Way to Happiness
Hope this helps.
This podcast was amazing. Many Pocasts make very good points and are quite educational however “Listen to the music” not only describes the value of culture but an anchor to recall and keep a lesson learned easily recallable. As a consultant I thrive to get across a value based message know often that the message disappears over time. Valuable information without recall soon becomes invaluable. This Listen to the music concept not only ignites recall but because it is music it brings a rhythm of positivity as you simultaneously recall the valuable information but also receive a feel good vibration..
Magellian and Al Lucia , Thank you for this message of value and the art of anchor recall
